Victims of Alleged Breach of Trust by Yamada Taihei Seek Justice from Cambodian Authorities
(Phnom Penh) – An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally requested intervention from the Cambodian Ministry of Justice, seeking accountability in a case involving the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei. The allegations claim that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in multiple acts of breach of trust and financial misconduct during his tenure.
According to the submitted letters, Yamada Taihei allegedly misused his position as Chairman to inflate the purchase prices of several real estate properties in Cambodia. Preliminary assessments suggest that roughly USD 4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain or to benefit his associates.
The investor further alleges that Yamada made unilateral decisions that ignored the rights of other shareholders, creating fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling over USD 7 million. These transactions allegedly involved the names of well-known Japanese corporations, forged documents, and large-scale cash diversions through multiple shell companies. Some of the funds are reported to have been transferred to a bank account outside Cambodia held by Yamada Taihei’s wife.
Additionally, Yamada is suspected of setting up multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, appointing nominees to act as official representatives while retaining direct control over all bank accounts and financial operations.
In Cambodia, Yamada Taihei and his associates have been charged in at least two criminal cases, with several assets and bank accounts frozen under court orders. Investigations are reportedly ongoing, and authorities in countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are also looking into allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breach of trust.
The letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice urge Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough investigations, ensure proper legal procedures, and hold Yamada Taihei accountable. The victim also expressed concerns over potential interference by influential individuals, including some judicial actors, which could obstruct justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
